If you’re like me, your Instagram feed is filled with beautiful images of friends enjoying the sunshine-filled European summer at the moment. Last year, I was lucky enough to be one of those people and along the way, I documented all my favourite places to visit, stay, eat and what you need to organise before travelling. Below, I share my travel tips for the breathtaking Amalfi Coast in Italy. It’s one of my favourite places I visited and one to add to the list for your next European escape.
June and July. Before June some places and services are not available. It’s also the best time weather-wise too! However be prepared for crowds.
It’s important to book as much as you can in advance. The small things all add up. From accommodation to transport and transfers, the more you book in advance the smoother your trip will be. It’s also a much better way to manage your budget. Write a list of everything you need to organise and break the list into weeks.
Research the restaurants you want to visit on the Amalfi Coast and consider booking them before you arrive. Peak season often means if you book once you arrive you will be disappointed and unable to get in, especially for dinner.
I would highly recommend booking a transfer from the airport to your accommodation on the Amalfi Coast. After a long flight across the globe, the last thing you want to worry about is transport. Pre-arrange an airport transfer — your driver will be waiting for you when you arrive and you can relax and take in the views and beautiful Italian culture.
I wouldn’t recommend driving however for getting from A to B, once you are in the Amalfi Coast you can utilise the amazing public transport including buses, ferries, some trains and also taxis.

Be prepared to walk a lot! Embrace it, it also means you can eat more pizza too. If you want to hire a car, you need to arrange an international driver’s licence at least one month before you leave Australia. Be careful on the narrow roads.
I recommend staying two nights. Although iconic Positano is incredible, we loved staying a few nights in Praiano to get away from the crowds. Our beautiful accommodation was called Grand Hotel Tritone and it was situated on the cliff looking out over the vast ocean. It also had its own private beach and an in-house restaurant. It was pure relaxation and a nice spot to relax in for a night or two prior to Positano.
One Fire Beach or the hotel’s private beach.
we did a day trip to Ravello and visited the beautiful and very iconic Belmond Hotel Caruso for a luxe lunch at their divine estate. It was one of our ‘splurges’ for the trip but it was worth every Euro!
I recommend staying one-to-two nights. Positano is a romantic seaside village known for its waterfall of colourful buildings and narrow streets lined with boutiques and cafés.
The small village comes to life in the European summer and is bustling with visitors from all around the world. Be prepared for queues and traffic jams, but don’t let that put you off — you can easily walk everywhere in Positano and make the most of the beach clubs, the beautiful restaurants and the views.
Da Adolfo, Positano. The famous beach club with the iconic red fish on its boat takes guests to and from the beach all day, every day. It’s important to book in advance and be prepared to relax in the sun while enjoying a glass of wine and lunch.
enjoy a sunset drink at Francos Bar. Get there early for a good spot.
the lemon sorbet at Ristorante Covo Dei Saraceni.
Ristorante Max; La Tagliata (must book!); Da Vincenzo 1958; Palazzo Murat (for a fancy dinner); Chez Black (famous establishment, very low-key and easy).
I recommend a day trip or a one-to-two night stay. For absolute luxury book into the Villa Bismarck.
Capri was an absolute highlight for me and somewhere I would highly recommend visiting during your stay in the Amalfi Coast. We took a ferry from Positano early in the morning and enjoyed a scenic trip over to the little island. From there we took the cable car up to the top of the cliff and made our way through all the incredible luxury boutiques down to La Fontelina where we spent the day relaxing, swimming, eating and enjoying the views.
take your pick between high-end boutiques like Gucci, Dior and the little linen shops — the options are endless.
at La Fontelina. Make sure you book lunch, a day bed and umbrella in advance. As it’s expensive it’s worth spending the majority of the day here.
Il Riccio.
if you have more than a day or are lucky to travel by boat to La Fontelina — make sure you stop by the famous Blue Grotto!
I can’t recommend the beautiful Amalfi Coast enough. Enjoy the beautiful Italian food, people and views. Ciao!
