As soldiers and police officers began beating a group of protesters, journalist Gregory Jaimes whipped out his mobile phone to film. Noticing the attention of reporters, one of the Venezuelan national guardsman raised his riot gun. Then, he opened fire.
Hit in the face and arm by a round of rubber bullets, Jaimes’ gas mask filled with blood. Footage of the incident shows the journalist falling to the ground, a flash grenade exploding nearby before he is dragged off by colleagues amid clouds of tear gas.
