Heyman Opens NXT Takeover
As this weekend’s excellent NXT Takeover: Philadelphia special emanated from the birthplace of “hardcore”, the show kicked off with a video package featuring none other than WWE’s resident advocate and the leader of ECW Paul Heyman. Check out the video above.
Dream Picks Up an Entourage
Velveteen Dream picked up a STRONG victory over the hard-hitting Kassius Ohno to open NXT Takeover, but before the match even started the captivating young man introduced a brand new “entourage” to his ring entrance.
Mocking the “Knockout Artist” gimmick of his opponent, Dream came to the ring dressed like a professional boxer – or at least, his unique interpretation of a boxer. Accompanying him to the ring for Saturday’s show was a young woman and a jacked-up shirtless man with an excellent beard. The two carried a pillow on which sat a mouthguard for the “fight” – a match he promised to win by 30-second knockdown.
UK Champ Calls Out Brock Lesnar
WWE UK Champion Pete Dunne was a special guest on the pre-show panel prior to NXT Takeover this weekend, and issued a challenge to… well, basically anyone. He and Tyler Bate won the 2017 NXT Year End Award for best match, and while the “Bruiserweight” was happy with the accolade he said it was time to focus on new challengers. He said he’d take on anyone, and apparently that includes WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar.
Baszler Shows No Remorse After Assault
While Shayna Baszler wasn’t quite victorious in capturing the NXT Women’s Championship this weekend, she did make a huge statement after destroying Ember Moon with submission after submission during the bout. The former MMA star also continued the assault after the match, making sure the champion couldn’t leave of her own accord. In the video below, Baszler discusses why she still feels like a winner despite the loss.
