It might come as no surprise that The Queen is keeping chic in the London heat. But when photographs of her first meeting with the UK’s new Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, were released, Twitter users weren’t looking at Her Majesty, resplendent in turquoise blue florals and fuchsia lipstick, not the gilded armchairs, nor the platinum blonde bowing before her, but instead: a Dyson fan.
The fan in question is a discontinued Hot + Cool Link Purifier, that promised not only to keep the room cool – it oscillates, has an in-built timer, and comes with a remote control for times when the Monarch isn’t too keen on getting up – but also to purify air around it, removing 99.95 per cent of airborne allergens and pollutants (our homes can be five times more polluted than the air outside – Buckingham Palace included). It can also be turned on to heat mode for winter. Positioned by the fireplace, it will have kept both Queen and company cool in London, with temperatures that are expected to reach 39 degrees celsius this week.

One Twitter user remarked: “I’ve been thinking about investing in a Dyson fan for ages but seeing that The Queen has one has basically convinced me to get one right now. #InfluencER”. Others applauded her relatively attainable choice: ”Not a gold-leaf-covered hand fan operated by a minion, not a giant rare bird flapping its wings in her direction, not even a diamond-encrusted version of a Dyson fan. Just an ordinary Dyson fan.”
While The Queen’s specific fan is now available on Amazon, Dyson has replaced her old model with the Dyson Pure Hot+Cool Link Purifier, which takes the function of its old counterpart to new heights. As well as oscillating, having a remote control and purifying air, it’s also extra quiet, contains a voice control service and comes with a clever app that monitors the air quality, making it a good choice for those who live in the city, like Her Majesty.
The brand has also recently launched a smaller fan that is cheaper, more compact and works well on desks or in small spaces. Called the Pure Cool Me, it can be easily angled to wherever a focused airflow is required and also removes pollens, allergens and bacteria from the air. And, put simply, what is good enough for The Queen, is good enough for us.
