Netflix has officially granted our festive viewing wish with the news that 2018’s favourite so-bad-it’s-good holiday rom-com, The Princess Switch—starring Vanessa Hudgens as both a royal, Lady Margaret, and a baker, Stacy De Novo—is getting a sequel.

According to The Hollywood Reporter (THR), the popular film’s second offering, titled The Princess Switch: Switched Again, will again star Vanessa Hudgens as look-alike Lady Margaret Delacourt, Duchess of Montenaro, and Stacy De Novo, but there’ll be a fresh new twist. Per the publication, Hudgens will also play a third mirror image character, who the publication describes as “party girl Fiona”.

In case you missed the original Princess Switch movie, the plot is a classic identity switch story. Chicago-based baker, Stacy De Novo (Vanessa Hudgens), and her best friend, Kevin (Nick Sagar), travel to the fictional kingdom of Belgravia to take part in a baking competition, while there Stacy bumps into Lady Margaret (also Vanessa Hudgens), who happens to be her double. Soon after, an identity switch, high jinks, festive baking fun and romantic mishaps ensue.

With so many of the holiday and rom-com tropes all rolled into one Netflix film, combined with a number of editing fails eagle-eyed watchers delightedly pointed out, naturally the internet fell in love with The Princess Switch when it debuted on the streaming service in 2018. So, a sequel almost felt inevitable.

According to , the plot of the sequel centres around Lady Margaret (Vanessa Hudgens) “unexpectedly inheriting the throne to Montenaro” and simultaneously hitting a “rough patch with Kevin” leaving it “up to her double, Stacy [also Vanessa Hudgens], to save the day before a new look-alike, party girl Fiona [Hudgens], foils their plans.”

Hudgens is clearly back on board to play all three characters, and while we don’t have confirmation yet, an educated guess has Nick Sagar back as Kevin.

Per the publication, Mike Rohl will be back in the director’s chair for round two, as will the original screenwriters, Robin Bernheim and Megan Metzger. Production is slated to begin next month, with a 2020 release date.
