In Tahrir Square, the Cairo plaza where millions of Egyptians brought down their autocratic government in 2011, there are now only pictures of the man undoing that revolution.
The famous square is empty of demonstrators but plastered with banners of Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, Egypt’s president.
The posters urge Egyptians to vote in this week’s referendum on constitutional changes that would allow Mr Sisi to stay in office until 2030 and tighten his grip over the judiciary.
There is no doubt that the referendum will pass in Mr Sisi’s favour. The only question is what margin of victory he will claim to have won by.
