Lagos is Nigeria’s largest city and is also known as the cultural and economic powerhouse of the country. Home to one of the world’s largest movie industries — ‘Nollywood’ — and a booming business hub, the sprawling metropolis is a bed of creativity. This month, fashion takes centre stage at Lagos Fashion Week spring/summer 2020, which runs from October 23 to October 26.
First launched by Omoyemi Akerele in 2011, the lawyer-turned-artistic-director has used the event as a platform to elevate the local fashion scene and showcase labels from across the continent. This year, the official schedule includes Orange Culture’s urban street-wear and Studio 189’s sustainable and empowering designs. Nigerian stalwarts Maki Oh (a New York Fashion Week regular) and Lisa Folawiyo will be showing, too.
