Short Hills Speeding Driver Clocked At 142 In 65-MPH Zone: Police

A New Jersey man was accused of driving 142 mph this weekend in a 65-mph zone, police said.

Eric Joseph, 51, of Short Hills was arrested on a reckless driving charge Saturday after he was driving 142 mph on I-95 south in New Hampshire, police said.

State police monitoring traffic from the sky just after 8 a.m. saw a Jeep Grand Cherokee “traveling at an extremely high rate of speed” and “clocked it at 142 mph in a posted 65-mph speed zone,” according to Lt. Sean Haggerty of the NHSP.

Troopers on the ground were radioed and the vehicle was stopped in Greenland by the New Hampshire State Police Enforcement Unit, police said.

Joseph was asked why he was traveling at that speed. “Joseph stated that he was traveling home to New Jersey,” Haggerty said.

Joseph is due in Portsmouth Circuit Court on Sept. 23, police said.
