It seems like as long as highly-publicised celebrity couples have existed, so too has the growing penchant for dressing alike.
Often stepping out with a sartorially united front, those notable pairs with tendencies to twin with their significant others have appeared at many an event in matching suits, complementary Canadian tuxedo-like looks and tonally in-tune outerwear.
And couple cloning has gone way beyond carefully coordinated clothing, with a number of pairs sharing jewellery, manicurists and even colourists.
Brad Pitt, a repeat offender of robbing his partners’s looks, carried the couple twinning baton for much of the ‘90s and early ‘00s, taking beauty and style cues from a number of his partners, including Gwyneth Paltrow and her deep-parted blonde pixie cut as well as her love for Matrix-style oval-framed shades, Jennifer Aniston and her honey blonde highlights, and his now ex-wife Angelina Jolie and her raven-hued hair.
Passing on his duplicative legacy to modern-day couples, we’ve seen a number of notable pairs—including Kim Kardashian and her husband, Kanye West, Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez, and even members of the British royal family—looking to each other to orchestrate their outfits.
But one could argue that the most likely celebrity of today to tap into Pitt’s twinning tendencies is Anwar Hadid, who has not only worn cute couple jewellery with his girlfriend Dua Lipa, but has also undergone a tandem hair bleaching with her, as well as crashing her manicure appointment so he too could top his nails with fluorescent polish.
