Rumored Raw Women’s Championship Match for SummerSlam Revealed

On the most recent edition of Monday Night Raw, we saw the first ever Women’s Gauntlet match on television. Fans were surprised to see Nia Jax, arguably the favorite going into the match, make it past four rounds before ultimately being defeated by Sasha Banks. As a result of the victory, Banks will now be going off to the Great Balls of Fire pay-per-view, and she will be challenging Alexa Bliss for her Raw Women’s Championship. Before the match began, Alexa wished Nia Jax luck backstage, and Nia dismissed her remarks. It looks like Nia facing off against Alexa Bliss is going to be a match that we will definitely be seeing very soon despite Jax’s loss this past Monday night.
According to the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Live, the segments with Alexa and Nia backstage are going to have a payoff, that being a match between the two of them at SummerSlam in August. Much like that upcoming Samoa Joe vs. Brock Lesnar match on the same pay-per-view next week, Banks facing Bliss is probably only going to be a one-off match. The plan is for Bliss to defeat Sasha, then begin a new program with Nia Jax for the title. Alexa has seemingly been attepmting to get on Nia Jax’s good side as of late, probably because she knows that Jax is a threat to her and her championship. Expect the interactions between Jax and Bliss to carry on until the big event this August.
Alexa Bliss vs. Nia Jax is an interesting match choice for the company to go with for one of their biggest shows of the year. The Observer also said that the original plan was for Bayley to face Sasha Banks in a rematch from their highly-acclaimed NXT Takeover match in 2015, which also took place in Brooklyn. However, plans changed, and since neither of them hold the title right now, WWE has decided to go in a different direction. You know Nia though, she’s not like most girls, and the size differential between herself and Bliss could make for an interesting visual. Nia vs. Alexa is the planned title match for SummerSlam at the moment. Right now though, Sasha Banks will challenge Alexa next week at Great Balls of Fire.
