It’s easy to forget that Princess Charlotte is just a four-year-old girl and like so many of her peers has some big milestones ahead of her, including her first day of school. The princess seems confident beyond her years having spent so much time in the spotlight already, thanks to her position in the British royal family.
But, just like all the other four-year-olds, Princess Charlotte is starting school for the year in line with the British school year, and it’s a big deal even for someone as poised as the fourth-in-line to the British throne.
Luckily, any first day nerves are sure to be helped by the fact that Princess Charlotte is joining her big brother, Prince George, six, at the London school he attends, Thomas’s Battersea, and has her older sibling to show her the ropes around the school yard while she settles in.
In addition to having her big brother on hand, according to the cute video posted on the Kensington Palace Twitter account, @KensingtonPalace, both her parents, Kate Middleton and Prince William, were on hand to drop her off for her very first day at Thomas’s Battersea, where she will be in Reception.
Middleton was forced to miss Prince George’s first day at the school in September 2017, as she was pregnant with Prince Louis at the time and reportedly very ill with severe morning sickness, so it’s a special day not just for Princess Charlotte but also for her mum, Middleton.
In the sweet video, the Cambridges (minus Prince Louis, one, who was presumably left with the Cambridge’s Spanish nanny, Maria Teresa Turrion Borrallo, for the big day), hold hands as they walk together towards the entrance to the school, with Middleton holding Princess Charlotte’s hand and Prince William holding Prince George’s hand.
Prince George greets the teacher first followed by Princess Charlotte, who sweetly, and slightly nervously then twirls her ponytail as they all walk into the school.
According to , at school, Princess Charlotte will just be known by her friends as Charlotte Cambridge. Similarly, Prince George is just known as George Cambridge at Thomas’s Battersea.
