The wrestling world erupted into a frenzy when Shinsuke Nakamura and AJ Styles briefly began fighting each other during the Money in the Bank ladder match last month. There was speculation as to when the two of them could face off in a singles match in a WWE ring. It was mentioned previously that the huge match was being planned for SummerSlam this year. The Wrestling Observer Radio’s Dave Meltzer now can confirm that those plans have been scrapped. It’s possible that the decision was made after Styles won the United States Championship. Styles is now rumored to be facing John Cena once again at the event this August.
PWInsider has reported that a inactive superstar could be making her return to the company very soon. Nikki Bella is reportedly due to return to the ring very soon. Bella will be appearing at the San Diego Comic Con next week and she will reportedly be returning to the company at SummerSlam in Brooklyn next month. Nikki Bella and John Cena won their match at Wrestlemania this year, and then Cena proposed to his longtime girlfriend in front of the audience. Bella has not been on WWE television every since Wrestlemania back in April of this year. Get ready to see “Fearless” Nikki Bella back in a WWE ring very soon.
In related news, some fans have been wondering about the length of the SummerSlam pay-per-view lately. WWE has gotten into a habit of extending their main pay-per-views into multi-hour shows. It appears that this year’s summer event will be no different. PWInsider claims that the event is due to begin at 7pm ET and that the show at least will run for four hours this year. WWE loves to serve their fans with as much content as possible, so strap in for another jampacked show later this year. SummerSlam will be emanating from the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn for the third time in a row next month. The show will air on August 20th, 2017.
