According to Denis, the player will be released by the Ligue 1 side in the coming hours. The former France youth international’s contract is set to expire at the end of the current season, but it now looks as if his contract will be cut short, and he will make the trip across the Atlantic to compete in the MLS.
Souquet has featured 12 times for Montpellier this season but has only started on three occasions. He has made over 100 appearances for the club since joining for around €3m in 2019. He has also played for OGC Nice, Lille Dijon, and Paris FC.
The player has reached a total agreement for a move to Chicago Fire, and the French defender will earn $650,000 per year. Souquet has already completed his medical ahead of the move.
