Smart Works is a charitable organisation helping unemployed women regain the skills to return to the workplace, as well as providing access to office-appropriate outfits to wear to job interviews.

It’s this particular area of Smart Work’s remit that Markle has been working on, partnering with British retailers Marks and Spencer, Jigsaw, and John Lewis & Partners — along with her good friend, US-based fashion designer Misha Nonoo — to create a capsule collection of office-ready attire that will benefit the Smart Works charity.

The news of the Smart Works capsule fashion collection was first revealed in British September issue — an issue the duchess guest-edited — and it works by way of a one-for-one process: for each item of the capsule collection sold, one item is donated to charity. These donated pieces provide the organisation with a much-needed supply of polished workwear for the women it helps to wear to interviews.

At the collection launch held at the John Lewis Oxford Street store in London, Markle looked office-ready in a Smart Set outfit that could have come directly from her pre-duchess actress days playing a paralegal-turned-lawyer on US legal drama, . The duchess, 38, wore the black tailored Jigsaw pants from the five-piece collection accessorised with a tan leather belt, along with the Misha Nonoo white shirt from the range and tan suede pumps identified by What Meghan Wore as Manolo Blahnik.

Notably, the white Misha Nonoo shirt is similar in style to the shirt from the same label that Meghan Markle wore in her first official public appearance with Prince Harry at the Invictus Games in 2017. And, the thoughtful sartorial moments didn’t end with the shirt.

Markle paid tribute to her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana, wearing a pair of Princess Diana’s gold and diamond butterfly-shaped earrings, a special piece she first wore in Sydney during the 2018 royal tour.
