Mbappé, Messi, and Neymar appear at bizarre PSG Japan press conference

As reported by Eurosport, PSG’s star-studded front three were joined by new manager Christophe Galtier at the first press conference during the club’s Japan tour which was marred by translations problems, discomfort, and awkward exchanges.

During the introductory remarks, the players and Galtier could not receive the direct translation of the Japanese-led conference, which the new PSG pointed out very quickly: “I’m sorry I don’t have a translation”. The sound problem was sorted by a technician whilst a Parisian representative was attempting to speak to room in broken Japanese.

Neymar and Messi also started their responses in Spanish before being asked to speak in French, whilst Neymar was caught in surprise when asked a question by the host, and had not received the translated communication in his earpiece. The session culminated in passing a ball with young fans which were hit too hard at the superstars, and in the case of Neymar, even imaginary.

The press conference comes as at the start of Paris Saint-Germain’s Japan tour, with the Parisian side set to play three friendlies against local opposition. First up will be Kawasaki Frontale on the 20th July in Japan’s National Stadium, then a trip to Urawa Red Diamonds the following weekend on the 23rd at the Saitama Stadium – and finally a trip to Gamba Osaka at the Panasonic Stadium. This will be in-between open training sessions with the public being able to attend.
