Marseille €12m Mohamed-Ali Cho deal held up by DNCG wage concerns

As reported by L’Équipe, Marseille’s discussions over the signing of Angers’ teenage forward Mohamed-Ali Cho are progressing well.

Talks have been ongoing for some time over the 18-year-old and Angers could yet sell Cho for as little as €12m, say the sports daily, a figure that has been rapidly declining over the last year with the teenager coming into the last year of his contract. A €12m plus bonuses deal was reportedly agreed upon last month according to other sections of the French media.

However, delays in the deal have come as Marseille wait for the DNCG to assess their finances before making a formal offer over salary, with the club’s wage bill of particular interest to French football’s financial watchdog.

Other sides are also interested in the player with Salzburg, Frankfurt, Leicester, Tottenham, Leipzig, Dortmund, Valencia, AC Milan and Atlético Madrid all mentioned this year. Foot Mercato reported last month that Real Betis could swoop for Cho too. However, the player himself has been focusing on his A-Levels in the last month after four goals in 32 Ligue 1 appearances last season.
