Lionel Messi out of Benfica match

Le Parisien are reporting that Lionel Messi (35) is out of Paris Saint-Germain’s Champions League tie against Benfica on Tuesday.

The Argentinian international was ruled out of Saturday’s 0-0 draw against Stade de Reims due to a calf contracture that was described as a “minor injury.” However, he is now set to miss consecutive games with the Ligue 1 champions.

According to Le Parisien, Messi was absent from Monday morning’s training session and will therefore not be in the group to face the Portuguese side. Messi’s injury was picked up during last Wednesday’s match against the Portuguese side. Having felt discomfort in his calf, he was immediately substituted.

It had been expected that he would be fit for this week’s Champions League tie as the medical exams were said to be “reassuring.” The hope for Messi and for PSG is that he will be fit for Le Classique against Marseille on Sunday.
