Just over a week after splitting with her partner of six years, Jamie Foxx, Katie Holmes has stepped out for the first time since the news broke. And, it looks as though things are now back to business as usual for her, with the star heading out in Manhattan with her daughter, Suri Cruise, in tow.

But while her ex has chosen to mark the end of their relationship by potentially re-entering another, Holmes’s post-break-up process looks to be playing out a little differently, choosing to go through a wardrobe renaissance of sorts.

Raising her arm to flag down a taxi, Holmes experienced what some are calling a wardrobe malfunction, but what we’re calling an absolute stroke of off-duty wardrobe genius—and very likely the birth of a new relaxed wardrobe trend.

Wearing a loose-fit cashmere cardigan for the day, the actress lifted her arm to, perhaps unintentionally, reveal a matching barley-hued cashmere bralette. The bralette is, when you think about it, a look that perfectly walks the line between comfort and luxury with an air of post-split chill—and apparently we’re not the only ones that think so.

As reported by The Cut, after the New York-based brand, Khaite—responsible for producing the Scarlett cardigan (AU$2291) and Eda bralette (AU$773)—rightfully credited their part in Holmes’s post-break-up glow up, it only took an hour for adopters of the cashmere bralette and cardigan-pairing trend to clean the brand out of their stock completely.

When questioned on why she though Holmes’s cashmere choices resonated so strongly with shoppers, Khaite’s founder and creative director, Catherine Holstein, told The Cut she thought the interest was pretty “obvious”.

“I want everything in cashmere,” she told The Cut. “I want a cashmere house. Why not a bra?” Going on to personally vouch specifically for the luxurious intimate, Holstein said she never wavered from its genius. “I have been making cashmere bras for two years now and really believed that people would catch on eventually.”

Topping off her now-sold out knitwear pair of choice, Holmes kept the look pared-back with a loose, messy bun, a classic pair of straight leg denim jeans and a low-heeled black mule. Following this foray into the peek-a-boo bra look, we have a feeling Holmes’s next style moves will continue to receive sartorial praise.
