Mere weeks after Grace Kelly’s granddaughter, Charlotte Casiraghi, married her partner Dimitri Rassam in a civil ceremony, followed by a second wedding in Provence, France, another of the late princess’s grandchildren has tied the knot.
Over the course of two days, Louis Ducruet, the 26-year-old son of Princess Stéphanie of Monaco, wed his long-time girlfriend, event planner Marie Chevallier, in what an attendee told People was “essentially a private family affair.”
Following in Casiraghi’s footsteps, Ducruet hosted a civil wedding ceremony at Monaco’s Prince’s Palace on July 26, before inviting guests to join him and his wife for a religious ceremony at the principality’s Cathedral of Our Lady Immaculate, where Grace Kelly and Prince Rainier II married in 1956.
“I was really attached to my grandfather, and I wanted him to be here with me,” People reports the football scout, who is 15th in line of succession to the Monégasque throne, said of his choice of venue.
“At some point he will be with me during the wedding ceremony at the cathedral,” he added. “That’s why we chose it, and Marie supported me in this decision, even though the place is big and there’s a protocol, but that’s the only way for my grandfather to be with us.”
The pair, who met in a Cannes nightclub in 2011 before discovering they were both students at the same business college, announced their engagement in February 2018.
While Chevallier opted to wear a white silk jumpsuit, complete with lace detailing and an open back from Barcelona-based designer Rosa Clará during her civil ceremony, she chose to walk down the aisle during her religious ceremony wearing one of her sister-in-law, Pauline Ducruet’s designs.
According to People, Ducruet, who graduated from the New York’s prestigious Parsons School of Design, teared up at the entryway of the church as she adjusted the train of the silk gown she collaborated with Atelier Boisanger on.

“Stunning Marie with her husband Louis yesterday at the beautiful Cathédrale de Monaco,” Atelier Boisanger captioned a series of images from the ceremony on Instagram.
“Atelier Boisanger with Pauline Ducruet created a wedding dress made of Silk Zagar and embroidered Chantilly Lace,” the caption continued. “It required 300 hours of embroideries, of patience and passion.”
