It’s Monaco’s turn for a royal wedding with news Charlotte Casiraghi is set to wed her partner this weekend.

Casiraghi, who is Grace Kelly’s granddaughter as the daughter of Princess Caroline, will marry her fiancé Dimitri Rassam at the Prince’s Palace of Monaco on June 1.

The ceremony this weekend will reportedly be a civil one hosted in a state room inside the palace, followed by a private luncheon. It is not yet known who is invited, and whether it will be a grand event attended by other European nobility, or members of the British royal family. However, it is shaping up to be an intimate affair.

Traditionally speaking, Monégasque royal weddings do come in parts – usually a civil ceremony, followed by a separate religious ceremony and in modern times, a grand reception. When Grace Kelly married Prince Rainier II in 1956, her civil ceremony was the day before her religious ceremony, which was then followed by a glamorous palace lunch. When the current monarch of Monaco, Prince Albert II, wed his bride Charlene Wittstock more recently in 2011, they followed this format except with a dinner reception at the Opéra de Monte-Carlo, complete with fireworks. For now though, it seems Casiraghi is planning to bend tradition and have a larger celebration later in the year.

We can expect to see members of the Monaco royal family at the nuptials, with Prince Albert and Princess Charlene expected to attend, as well as the bride’s mother, Princess Caroline, and the bride’s aunt, Princess Stéphanie. The bride’s siblings, including Andrea and Pierre Casiraghi, are also expected to attend.

Casiraghi, who is eleventh in line to the Monégasque throne, became engaged to film producer Dimitri Rassam back in March of 2018, after a year of dating. They also share a son together, Balthazar, who was born in October of 2018. At the moment, Balthazar has no place in the line of succession to the Grimaldi throne, but this will change after his parents wed. Some outlets are even reporting the couple may host a short baptism after their ceremony this weekend for their son, who will then be formally included in the royal family’s lineage.

Casiraghi also has a son from a previous relationship, five-year-old Raphaël, while Rassam has a daughter.

At this stage, it remains to be seen how much we’ll learn of the nuptials because this is one incredibly private couple, but we can be certain it is set to be one very fashionable wedding.
