Things go from 0 to 100 real quick for our Hawkins’s favourites in the latest season of Stranger Things. Season three gave us everything we love and expect now from the franchise: a rift in the Upside Down and all of the ’80s vibes. Not only did we get to see more of Hawkins, Indiana with the inclusion of Starcourt Mall as a main location for much of the season but we were introduced to a whole host of new characters.

Without giving too much away for those who haven’t binged the entire series, in one night (no shame in our game here), we need to talk about the obvious break out of the season, Maya Hawke, aka Robin, the witty and comedic co-worker to Steve Harrington (Joe Keery) at the Scoops Ahoy in Starcourt Mall.

Robin (Hawke) plays a major role in aiding our mighty heroes this season, all the while stealing scenes with her dead-pan zingers and unexpected charm. So just who is our newcomer Maya Hawke?

As it turns out, Hawke is the daughter of actors Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman and is no stranger to these things, at all (see what I did there). The 20-year-old made her screen debut in 2017 in BBC’s miniseries adaptation of Little Women, where she plays Jo March. She also has a role in the Quentin Taratino film, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, starring alongside Brad Pitt, Margot Robbie and Leonardo DiCaprio.

Hawke’s father, Ethan Hawke, was just as proud of her as we were, gushing over her debut as Robin in an Instagram post over the weekend. He said, “Some of you missed her in last year’s BBC production of Little Women…Some of you may know her music, some may not. But Ladies & Gentlemen, get to know MAYA HAWKE. She’s the real thing”.

This super sweet post naturally caught the eyes of other celebs, and Robin stans, in Hawke’s following, including Bravo’s Andy Cohen, and Big Little Lies star and Hollywood alum Laura Dern.

“Yes, she is!” said Dern.

In an interview with WWD last month, Maya Hawke said: “I’m a super joyful, exuberant person; I bring a lot of energy, maybe from nerves or something, but they kind of tapped into that and then started to write the character more along those lines…throughout the season she [Robin] became more and more like me”.

Writers and co-creators, The Duffer Brothers, clearly know what they’re doing. With Robin’s brilliance in extracting the meaning of the code, and her ultra touching reveal in episode seven, we’re all together stanning the arrival of this newcomer-no-more!

Stranger Things season three is available to stream on Netflix.
