Impact Wrestling will be announcing the main event for their WrestleMania week show this Friday night. While we’re not sure exactly what the match will be, it was confirmed this morning that a former Impact World Champion will return to compete in the bout.
Impact: United We Stand invades the Rahway Rec Center in New Jersey on Thursday, April 4th. Tickets are still available, but will likely sell out in advance.

Interestingly enough, the list of possible competitors isn’t that long when you remove any names currently currently signed with WWE. Former Impact World Champions include Rob Van Dam, Ken Anderson, James Storm, Austin Aries, Bully Ray, Chris Sabin, Nick Aldis, Alberto el Patron. If that list extends to include NWA World Heavyweight Champions, you can also add Ken Shamrock and Raven.
You can remove Chris Sabin, who is currently injured. El Patron basically got himself blackballed from the promotion, and the current management regime bringing him back seems unlikely. Bully Ray is working with Ring of Honor and will likely be a part of the MSG card that weekend. Raven hasn’t worked more than a few matches per year since 2012 and at 54 also seems unlikely to headline a major event.
That leaves RVD, Anderson, Storm, Aries, Aldis and Shamrock. The last name seems unlikely, but he did recently return to pro wrestling and wants to wrestle more in 2019.

Aries last appeared at Bound for Glory in the main event, dropping the world title to Johnny Impact in a hugely controversial segment that would make a great return program if they could work out a one-time deal. Out of all the names he is by far the youngest and most in-shape as far as working modern main event matches go. Aldis defending the Ten Pounds of Gold would also make a really nice “full circle” moment for both his career, and for the title itself.
