England: Eddie Jones’ men to face Wales and Fiji as part of World Cup preparations

England has confirmed three Test matches that will take place in August 2023 as part of their preparation for the World Cup in France.

Eddie Jones’ men will start with a trip to Cardiff to face Wales at the Principality Stadium on August 5 before welcoming the same opponent to Twickenham a week later on August 26.

One clash to be confirmed

England’s final warm-up game will be against Fiji on August 26. There will be another away clash before the Fiji Test, with the opponents yet to be confirmed.

Jones‘ men will be based in Le Touquet in France following the warm-up Test as they prepare for their opening clash of the World Cup against Argentina in Marseille. Japan, Chile and Samoa make up the remaining opponents in Pool D.

The coach knows how important the warm-up games are for their preparation and looks forward to undergoing final developments before heading to France for the showpiece event.

“These matches will be crucial as we enter our final preparation stage for the Rugby World Cup,” said Jones. “It’s our chance to develop our tactical approach, improve our game fitness and to say thank you to the supporters for the last four years.

“We’re very fortunate to have such a tough opponent in Wales and to play them both home and away, along with the atmosphere we always experience in Cardiff. It will be great preparation for the squad.

“We also know Fiji are a rapidly improving team under Vern Cotter, they have some excellent individuals and are a similar proposition to Samoa who we will face in the World Cup.

“These are the matches where the World Cup is almost in touching distance and the feeling that the support of a full Twickenham Stadium will give the squad real momentum going into the tournament in France.”
