Shortly after news broke that the sequel to , called , was officially in the works, Dylan Sprouse took to Instagram to reveal that he has been cast to play Trevor, the second instalment’s lead protagonist.

Joining Josephine Langford and Hero Fiennes-Tiffin, who play Tessa and Hardin in the film, Sprouse is set to throw a spanner in the works when his character, who happens to work with Tessa at Vance Publishing, develops feelings for the young college student.

As expected, this plot twist leaves the rather controlling Hardin in a difficult position, and lays the groundwork for the perfect story arc in the sequel.

Taking to Instagram Stories just days after his 27th birthday, Sprouse announced: “Excited to be part of the @aftermovie series. Check out their page and I can’t wait to start filming, even if it is drying [sic] Atlanta’s hottest month.”

“I’m very excited to announce to you that I will be playing Trevor in ,” he revealed in the video. “I cannot wait to bring fucking Trevor to life for you and I’m excited for you all to see the finished content. Can’t wait to start filming.”

The film’s official Instagram account then shared Sprouse’s video on its feed. “We have our Fucking Trevor @dylansprouse,” read the caption. Noticing a pattern? Yes, fans of the novel refer to the character as “Fucking Trevor”.

If you’re wondering what all the fuss is about, it’s important to flag that when the  movie – which originated as One Direction fan fiction that went viral before becoming a bestselling print series – was first released in June, it went on to amass over US$69 million at the global box office, per W Magazine

As such, it should come as no surprise that Universal gave the sequel, also written by author Anna Todd, the go-ahead. Roger Kumble has since been confirmed to direct the project, and per Sprouse, filming is slated to take place in Atlanta, Georgia.
