Almost two years after actress Dakota Johnson and Coldplay lead singer Chris Martin were first romantically linked in October 2017, the pair have reportedly decided to go their separate ways.
According to , a source that is said to be a “friend” of the couple confirmed the split took place last month. Since then, the reports that Martin has been spotted bike riding in Malibu, while “look[ing] downcast.”
“Chris and Dakota were very easygoing and always seemed really happy together,” said ’s source. “There was talk of engagement but now he says they have gone their separate ways, which has come as a real surprise to everyone.”
While two years doesn’t exactly sound like the longest period of time, it was enough for Johnson and Martin to holiday with Martin’s ex-wife Gwyneth Paltrow and her husband Brad Falchuk in the Maldives, get matching tattoos of the infinity symbol, move into a Malibu beach house, travel to countless Coldplay concerts around the world, and enjoy numerous PDA-filled date nights.
News of the couple’s split comes just two months after Paltrow joined Johnson at Derek Blasberg’s birthday dinner in April, and one week after the star referred to Johnson as a “fantastic woman,” after confessing, “I adore her.”
Martin, 42, previously married Paltrow in 2003, before they “consciously uncoupled” in 2016. They share a 15-year-old daughter named Apple, and a 13-year-old son named Moses. Prior to Martin, 29-year-old Johnson was romantically linked to actor Jon Hamm.
