Ligue 1 newly-promoted side Brest are set to imminently announce a transfer deadline day coup after they agreed a fee with French 2nd tier side RC Lens to sign 22-year-old French central defender Jean-Kévin Duverne, as initially reported by Yahoo Sport FR and since confirmed by 20 Minutes.
This comes as a big blow to Nantes, who were convinced this morning that they would capture Duverne’s signature. Duverne gets the departure from RCL that he wanted all summer, having been in a legal dispute with them over terms of his contract.
He viewed their decision to activate an automatic contract extension option in his deal as going against the spirit of the contract that he had signed with Lens. However, the LFP ruled that the player’s protestations were wrong and that Lens had acted lawfully.
In any case, the relationship between Duverne and Lens had soured to such an extent that a departure was inevitable.
