The first result for the WWE UK Title tournament has come in from the Download Festival as Joseph Conners battled Ashton Smith.
The two Englishman battled it out in the first match of the entire tournament and it was the new member of the WWE UK Division who came out on top as Ashton Smith defeated Conners.
This is a result that some might consider an upset given that Conners is fairly established in the WWE UK division already having taken part in last years tournament and most recently on 205 Live, but it could be a sign that the company is looking to push some new faces.
Smith progresses to the next round, meaning he will be involved at the Royal Albert Hall tapings where he will face either Travis Banks or Ligero in that match, depending on who wins their First Round battle.

Also at Download today, Flash Morgan Webster defeated James Drake to advance to the next round.
