Russian Volleyball League is perceived as a financial tycoon and clubs, playing there, are not on the par with competitors on the transfer market for the rest of the world. However, all that glitters is not gold because Ural Ufa goes through very serious troubles. A deep budgetary hole caused that players want to fly away from Siberia.
Players of Ural Ufa claimed the Russian Championships silver medal in the attractive style last season but already then appeared some gossips about the main sponsor departure. Many players being the team heart e.g. Leandro Vissotto, Alexey Spiridonov or Alexey Verbov have left Ural due to a disturbing financial report. The very activists did not pay attention to that information and decided to put up a strong squad composed by costly players.
At the beginning of the season all problems were swept under the rug but all of them have surfaced because it had to happen. The whole team, involving players, coaching stuff, and medical care, does not receive any money since several months as a result announced a protest that was come up last Sunday.
Ural Ufa boycotted the last round not showing up on the court in the game against Lokomotiv Novosibirsk. This happening may be fateful.
It seems that the Russian club will not do without personal castling. The only foreign player of Ural, Nikola Kovacevic, will go first crack at solving the problem and “say goodbye Ufa, goodbye Siberia”.
Another not Russian player, Bjorn Andrae, left Ural a few weeks ago trading to Kuzbass Kemerovo.
Ural Ufa is still ranked on the 9th spot in Superleague, but the question is will they survive to the end…
