BROOKINGS, S.D. – Unattached North Dakota State wrestler Josh Rodriguez claimed the 125-pound championship at the Warren Williamson/Daktronics Open hosted by South Dakota State on Sunday, Nov. 3, going 5-0 on his way to the title.
Three unattached true freshmen also placed for the Bison. Mitch Bengtson placed fifth at 141 pounds, Tommy Petersen took fifth at 197 pounds, and Tyler Weyer claimed seventh at 149 pounds.
Rodriguez plans to redshirt the 2013-14 season after competing at 133 pounds as a true freshman last year. He defeated No. 10-ranked Tim Lambert of Nebraska by a 3-1 decision for the championship on Sunday night.
Weyer went 7-2 on the day to lead the Bison in victories. Petersen posted a 5-2 mark, and Bengtson went 4-2.
