FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State wrestling team is ranked 23rd in the latest USA Today/NWCA/AWN Division I Coaches Poll released on Tuesday, marking the highest ranking in the school’s Division I era in the dual strength poll.
The Bison were ranked in the coaches’ poll for three weeks last season, spending one week at No. 24 in late November and two weeks at No. 25 in late January and early February.
NDSU is also ranked 21st as a team in the latest Intermat rankings, which order teams based on projected NCAA Tournament scoring rather than dual meet strength.
Senior Steven Monk is ranked No. 3 in the nation at 165 pounds, and sophomore Hayden Zillmer has reached a new high of No. 11 at 174 pounds.
The Bison are coming off a weekend road sweep of two ranked opponents in No. 21 (Intermat) Boise State and No. 20 (coaches’ poll) Oregon State. NDSU has improved its dual record to 6-3 this season with four straight wins on the road, and the Bison return home to host Air Force in Western Wrestling Conference action on Friday, Jan. 24, at 7 p.m.
