In what could have been a key fashion moment in a scene from either royal TV series, or aristocratic period drama, , on Sunday, August 25, a car carrying two perfectly turned out royal women wearing their Sunday best, one besuited prince and a driver in full livery drove through the village of Crathie in Scotland en route to a Sunday church service, dazzling everyone they encountered.
But this was no scene from a TV show or movie. This was the charming vision that greeted Crathie’s residents when The Queen, Kate Middleton and Prince William were on their way to attend a church service at Crathie Kirk, while holidaying nearby at their Scottish residence, Balmoral Castle.
Despite The Queen and the Cambridge family being on holidays (there was no sign of the junior Cambridges — Prince George, six, Princess Charlotte, four, and Prince Louis, one — but they are all staying at Balmoral) Middleton, 37, and The Queen, 93, didn’t bow to casual holiday garb, both pulling out fabulous outfits to attend the church service.
Middleton, clearly enjoying the ride to church, wore the best accessory — a beaming smile — along with a navy double-breasted military-style coat with gold buttons identified by What Kate Wore as a style the duchess has worn before but not a designer she’s previously been seen in. The site reports the coat appears to be the “navy herringbone wool trench coat” from British label Guinea London, which retails for £535 (approximately AU$975) and appears to still be available on the brand’s website, should any of the many Middleton style fans be in the market for a new duchess-approved coat.
Middleton paired the coat with a Lock and Co. hat notes we’ve seen before along with her “Asprey Oak Leaf earrings”. According to the site, underneath the coat, Middleton was wearing a Michael Michael Kors peacock pattern dress, which she wore to an engagement earlier this year.
Middleton’s companion in the back seat of the car, The Queen, was similarly radiant in her Sunday best, wearing a fuchsia jacket over what looked to be a floral dress, paired with a matching fuchsia and grey hat. The Queen reportedly loves her annual holiday in Scotland at Balmoral Castle and with her cheery wave to onlookers, she certainly looked to be enjoying herself.
Prince William also dressed for the occasion, looking dapper in a suit and tie. Scroll on to see the royals in their Sunday best on their way to church.
