The head coach of China Di Anhe resigned his position due to his health reasons and also because he did not lead the team to achieve good results during World Grand Champions Cup, China took the last place.
New coach is Zhou Jian'an, the former captain of the Chinese National Team. His contract will finish after the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008.
Zhou Jian'an said in the press briefing that he will try his best to make the Chinese men's national team become the No.1 again in Asia and his aims in next year are to lead the team to enter the finals in the 2006 Asian Games and finish the top 12 in the World Volleyball Championships in Japan. As for the 2008 Olympic Games, he said he is confident to lead the Chinese men's tem to enter the top eight. China has qualify for the World Championship and will automatically enter the finals of the Olympic Games as host team.
Zhou was a member of the Chinese youth team in 1987 and joined the national team the next year. He and his teammates clinched the gold medals in 1990 and 1998 Asian Games and the Asian Champions in 1997 and 1999 Asian Volleyball Championships, the best ever results the Chinese men's team had claimed. He was the team's captain and was considered one of the best setters on China. He left the Chinese National team in 1999 and became the head coach of the Sichuan Provincial men's volleyball team until he was named the head coach of the Chinese National team.
