James Joyce Ramble 10 km prepares for a large and talented field and an event that will be one for the books this Sunday.
A convergence of the worst running conditions seen in modern times at the Boston Marathon and one of the coldest, wettest Aprils since 1936 may have a direct bearing on what could be one of the epic gatherings of running talent ever seen as part of the USATF National Masters 10 km Championship this Sunday, April 29 in front of the Endicott Estate Mansion in Dedham, MA.
Many runners who were denied their personal bests at the B.A.A. Marathon, thwarted by horrendous weather, will no doubt be in Dedham to see how they can perform with a weather forecast calling for partly sunny conditions with temperatures ranging in the sixties.
New England Runner Magazine chose the Ramble a “Race of the Year,” calling the race “well worth a standing ovation.” Over the years it’s been covered by the New York Times, Sports Illustrated, The Wall Street Journal, ESPN & National Public Radio.
The 35th James Joyce Ramble taking place on Sunday, April 29 is known as the world’s fine arts running event, especially for the dozens of professional costumed actors staged throughout the historic six-mile course espousing from the literary works of the race’s namesake, and featuring live music by the critically acclaimed Denis Brennan Quartet.

Founded in 1984, the James Joyce Ramble has been chosen among running events all over America to host the USATF National Masters (age 40+) 10-kilometer Championship. It continues to draw the best in American running talent from coast to coast. Two American distance records have been broken.
The Ramble enjoys a reputation for athletic excellence, organizational acumen, community support and a pretty historic course that has borne witness to performances of internationally acclaimed athletes with records currently held by Kenyans Stephen Kigora, (28:45) and Martha Komu (32:54).
