ORLANDO, FL — Orlando police say a TSA agent jumped from the Hyatt Regency Hotel into the atrium area of Orlando International Airport on Saturday.
Police say the agent, a man in his 40s, was found in critical condition and taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. Police say preliminary information suggests that it was an apparent suicide.
Orlando Airport said that some passengers had to be rescreened as a security precaution. The airline said passengers should expect delays as the airport returns to normal operations.
In a statement, the TSA said an off-duty officer fell from a hotel balcony inside the airport and died.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the officer’s family, friends and everyone in our TSA family,” the statement said.
The TSA said several passengers scattered into the sterile area unscreened as a result and that the agency would be rescreening them.
If you or somebody you know are having suicidal thoughts call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 800-273-TALK (8255) .
