Just over one year after Bella Hadid and The Weeknd reconciled in May of 2018, the 22-year-old model and 27-year-old singer have reportedly decided to go their separate ways, again.
“Bella and Abel have split,” a source told E! News, before going on to cite “distance” as the reason behind their most recent break-up. As it turns out, distance doesn’t always make the heart grow fonder. In fact, in this particular case, it led to an increase in tension.
“They are in different places right now, physically and mentally,” the source explained. “Bella is prepping for her fashion week commitments and Abel is working on his music and his upcoming acting debut.”

This news comes shortly after US Weekly reported the pair, who have been involved in an on-again, off-again relationship since they were first romantically linked at Coachella in 2015, were close to getting engaged in November 2018.
“A proposal is on the horizon,” a source told the outlet at the time, sharing that Hadid and The Weeknd were “madly in love with each other”.
According to E! News, the couple, who moved in together in October 2018, “haven’t spent quality time together in months” as their busy schedules make it difficult for them to set aside time to see each other.
While the time apart has resulted in Hadid and The Weeknd “arguing a lot recently,” the source shares that “they hope to get back together at one point but for now are focusing on themselves and their projects.”
The Weeknd deactivated his Instagram account just last week, and Hadid hasn’t posted about her beau since February. The last image she shared with the singer was captioned: “HAPPY BIRTHDAY BABY”.
The couple first broke up in November 2016, before reconciling in May 2018 when they were spotted kissing at the Alexander Wang x Magnum party while in Cannes for the annual film festival.
“Abel realised once he started dating around, that he actually is still in love with Bella, and they reconnected,” an insider told E! News at the time.
During their time apart, The Weeknd went on to date Selena Gomez for almost a year, before the pair ended things in October 2017.
