With three young children and many official engagements to attend it’s no wonder the future king of England and his wife are recruiting for an exceptionally organised person to manage their diaries.
The role of “diary coordinator” has just been posted to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s royal vacancies job board and while the title says diary coordinator, from the description it’s essentially a personal assistant role that sounds like it will cover not just the duke and duchess but also their three children, Prince George, five, Princess Charlotte, four, Prince Louis, one, and their exceptionally busy schedules.
Based at Kensington Palace, the role is permanent and will involve taking responsibility for “managing the seamless delivery of multiple complex diaries to ensure the smooth and effective coordination of engagements and events.”
The job description also notes that diary changes are required to be communicated to “all key stakeholders, both internally and externally”, leaving us to wonder if Kate Middleton and Prince William have had, like any other busy family, double unbreakable commitments on the same time and day in completely different locations that neither party communicated to the other.
Who hasn’t been in that situation? And it turns out even royals aren’t immune to these types of major diary fails. Even The Queen has suffered from diary clashes. Just this past weekend, when Her Majesty’s great-grandson, Archie Harrison Moutbatten-Windsor, was being christened at Windsor Castle, The Queen wasn’t in attendance due to a prior commitment. If only Archie’s parents, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, and The Queen had diary coordinators of their own, they could have worked this important date in young Archie’s life into Her Majesty’s diary.
Indeed, The Queen also missed Prince William and Middleton’s youngest son, Prince Louis’s, christening last year due to a prior engagement. But, with the recruitment of a diary coordinator, it sounds like all important dates for the family of five will be scheduled to ensure everyone in the immediate royal family can attend.

But, it’s important to note that the job does specify “discretion” and “confidentiality” as key characteristics, so even if you get the job, it’s not going to be a shared iCal situation where a BBQ at your aunt’s house and a royal engagement are competing for diary space.
