Premier League Betting: Chelsea odds-on for top four despite recent wobble

The Blues are currently fourth in the top-flight and are tailed by multiple clubs including Manchester United, Tottenham, Wolves and Sheffield United

The race for the Premier League top four could go down to the wire with a host of teams all in the running to claim a coveted Champions League spot.

Chelsea currently occupy fourth with 41 points, but a downturn in form over the last two months has seen them go from nine points clear on November 22 to just four above Tottenham – and only eight above Everton in ninth.

Indeed, the Blues have won just four and lost six of their last 13 in the Premier League, although bet365 still make them 4/7 (1.57) to finish in the top four for the 15th time in the last 18 seasons.

More teams

Frank Lampard’s men are without a win in their last three games and face a pivotal pair of fixtures next, hosting Manchester United and then Spurs in the space of five days.

In fifth, Tottenham are available at 3/1 (4.0) to make it five consecutive campaigns with a top-four finish although Jose Mourinho’s men will need to be more consistent than they have been.

Victory at Aston Villa in their next game will see them record three league wins in a row for the first time in over 12 months, and they will certainly back themselves to achieve that after beating Manchester City 2-0 last time out.

Manchester United are another model of inconsistency, having failed to score in four of their five top-flight games in 2020 and are out at 8/1 (9.0) to return to the Champions League.

The Red Devils currently sit six points behind Chelsea, but their away form must be something of a concern for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, with his side picking up just 12 points. Their tally of 12 away goals is also the fifth-fewest in the league.

Wolves only trail United on goal difference and bet365 make them 10/1 (11.0) to record a top-four finish for the first time since 1971.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s men have only lost six times this season – the second-fewest in the league – but they have claimed just two wins against teams in the top 12, and their 11 draws are the second-most behind only Arsenal.

Certainly the surprise package of the campaign, Sheffield United can be backed at 16/1 (17.0) after earning 36 points from their first 25 games to sit in sixth place.

The Blades were one of the favourites to drop straight back into the Championship but their incredible away form, which has seen them lose just twice outside of South Yorkshire, means they are challenging for Europe.
