Inside a garden wedding set in the grounds of an Italian villa

Gina Han and Nikolas Simic met in a rather old-school way, “Guy at the bar chats up the girl and tries to offer her a drink,” Han told The rest was history.
The pair then became engaged in a very romantic way. The lead-up to the proposal consisted of Simic sending a large bouquet of white roses from Han’s favourite florist, every day to her work for three weeks. You may think it can’t get any more romantic than that, but it can. The couple then took a vacation to Hamilton Island and Han says, “I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect proposal.” On the second day of the holiday, Simic had hired a boat for a day, and Han was clearly clueless as to what was happening next. “I thought we were just spending the day out on the water, but we stopped on a small private beach where it was just the two of us. I didn’t know at the time but he hired out the whole beach just for us and set up a beautiful picnic for us…. And there he was on one knee,” Han told

The couple decided on a destination wedding over in Italy, during the month of May to catch the perfect Italian spring weather. “It was also a perfect time for our family and friends to also make a holiday out of our wedding and enjoy the start of the European summer,” Han adds. A year before the wedding, the couple had taken a trip over to Italy to search for an ideal wedding venue as they knew Italy was the place they wanted to tie the knot. Finding that venue, though, took more time than expected, but as soon as the couple were pointed to a specific venue by their wedding planner, they both knew it was the one. “The second we drove into the driveway we knew this was it. It was everything we wanted, a traditional Italian villa,” Han says.

As an art director, Han had sourced wedding ideas over the years using editorials, magazines, blogs and Pinterest boards. The bride says she believes this made the whole experience more relaxed and controlled. Han felt like she was planning this for years! “We wanted the wedding to be as organic as possible, true to the surrounds and full of wild florals,” Han says. Due to bride’s pre-planning and early vision of how her wedding would be, along with the perfect wedding destination and venue, everything worked seamlessly.

The hunt for Han’s dress was also stress-free, as the bride knew exactly what she wanted and she was lucky enough to find her dress in no time. “My style has always been simple; I love sleek silhouettes and A-line cuts. I was just looking for the perfect silk silhouette and I really got so lucky,” Han told

The overall wedding was a memorable affair. In the lead-up to the ceremony the bride spent the day relaxing and thanks to the 6pm ceremony, the couple and family had time to enjoy a beautiful long lunch together with lots of champagne and the most delicious traditional Sicilian food. After lunch the couple separated and began to get ready. “It was so relaxed, we had plenty of time and we just sat around and laughed, maybe even shed a few tears… and I also wrote my speech super last minute,” the bride reflects.

With both pre and after events planned for the newlyweds to celebrate with all their loved ones who travelled across the globe, Han felt like they had plenty of time to enjoy the celebration. “I felt like the luckiest girl in the world to have my dream wedding in Sicily of all places and to have married the love of my life. I’m so glad we hosted a beautiful brunch by the pool at the villa for all our wedding guests the next day so we still had another day to celebrate with everyone,” Han mentions.
