Kate Middleton has changed up her favourite lip product

The Duchess of Cambridge has long been rumoured to favour one particular lip product: Bobbi Brown’s Sandwash Pink lipstick. The soft, neutral, always-appropriate shade has been the duchess’s go-to for years now, but, during the duchess’s recent day out at Wimbledon, she appeared to have stepped out of her Sandwash Pink comfort zone and into new beauty territory with a glossy new lip product.

Hello! reports the duchess was spotted courtside applying Clarins Instant Light Natural Lip Perfector in what looked to be the Rose Shimmer shade. According to the Clarins website, this “softly textured lip gel with a deliciously sweet scent and 3D shimmer” retails for $32 and is available to purchase online, should you wish to pucker up like the princess. But, whether or not you wish to copy her beauty look, the change up is certainly noteworthy.

When it comes to beauty, the duchess is famously down-to-earth. The 37-year-old mother-of-three did her own bridal make-up on her wedding day, a day most people, let alone princesses and celebrities, outsource to professional make-up artists, knowing that it will be the most they’ll be photographed in their life.

Middleton, however, eschewed that bridal tradition in favour of casually and confidently doing her own make-up, fully aware that given she was marrying a prince, not only would millions of people see her on her 2011 wedding day in high definition on their screens, but her wedding photos would be seen by millions more people all over the world for years to come.

The duchess did have some help prior, reportedly taking a few lessons from make-up artist and Votary co-founder Arabella Preston, but it’s still a very impressive beauty moment. And while Middleton learnt enough make-up artistry skills to competently do her own bridal make-up, she keeps her day-to-day and red carpet look pretty natural and consistent.

This consistency is why the new beauty product showing up in Middleton’s beauty line-up is important and gives rise to many pressing questions. The duchess has, until now, been a very loyal and long-time fan of not only the Bobbi Brown Sandwash Pink lipstick but a slew of Bobbi Brown products. Kate’s Closet shared that the duchess also likes the brand’s foundation, brow kit and blush.

Does this mean she’s also expanded the rest of her kit beyond Bobbi? If so, what other beauty brands and products is the duchess giving her royal seal of approval to? How did she come to try the new Clarins product? Surely she didn’t just pop down to the cosmetics floor at Harvey Nichols or Selfridges and sample at the beauty counters.

Without word from the palace, we can’t know the answers to any of these questions for sure. However, if Middleton shares more summer beauty bag updates, you can bet we’ll keep you updated.
