Oh, to be Italian. There’s something about that la dolce vita attitude that makes the Italian woman appear so effortlessly stylish. It’s a fact Australian actress Nathalie Kelley knows all too well – after all, Rome-born film star Sophia Loren is her ultimate fashion muse. In this video for Vogue Australia, Kelley shows us how to channel our own inner goddess with a masterclass in Italian style.
“Did you know that she actually had some pretty amazing pearls of wisdom?” Kelley ponders of her go-to muse as she teaches herself how to make pasta – why not go back to basics, after all? – and practices her best Italian.

“Mistakes are the price of an interesting life,” is one of Kelley’s favourite phrases borrowed from Loren. Another? “Sex appeal is 50 percent what you’ve got and 50 percent what people think you’ve got.” It’s an attitude that serves one well. Why not fake it until you make it? Or as Loren would say, “You get what you want, if you want it badly enough.”
As Kelley learns, true Italian style is in learning to project a certain inner confidence. “My favourite thing [Loren] said was, “Any woman can look her best if she feels good in her skin.” Sometimes, that’s as simple as the perfect accessory, which is why Kelley reaches for Bulgari’s iconic B.Zero1 collection, to give herself that classic Italian touch and a boost of self-confidence in the process.
Inspired by Rome’s Colosseum, the B.Zero1 collection is an Italian icon itself. This year marks the twentieth anniversary of the B.Zero1, which is loved the world over for being a true classic. It’s the perfect add-on for any occasion, since the cylindrical design makes for an instantly recognisable piece. As Kelley demonstrates, the B.Zero1 collection can take you from the kitchen (while preparing the perfect Italian meal, of course) to sailing on the harbour (while channeling your inner Sophia Loren) in a heartbeat. The B.Zero1 continues to reinvent itself, yet always remains classic – like Loren, and the best of Italian tastemakers, really.
As Kelley proves, if we feel good about how we look, that la dolce vita life follows. Kelley says: “It’s how we sparkle.”
