Although it reads more like a modern dating story than the script of a royal romance, the union of Crown Princess Victoria to her personal trainer Daniel Westling on June 19, 2010 was anything but ordinary. Crown Princess Victoria’s wedding was the first large-scale royal event since her mother and father had wed and it subsequently brought the country to a halt.
A horse-drawn carriage, musical voluntaries ringing through the streets, a military guard, fighter jets soaring through the sky, and below Storkyrkan Cathedral a beautiful bride and her groom kissing underneath crossed swords.
Princess Victoria’s Pär Engsheden ivory duchesse silk gown, paired with her mother’s diadem, which was reminiscent of a crown, injected a flourish of glamour to an already show-stopping affair. A five-metre train of detachable silk was removed for the couple’s wedding banquet inside the Royal Palace, where after their first kiss on the historic balcony, they waltzed as Prince and Princess, Duke and Duchess of Västergötland.
