Although rumours that Taylor Swift and Katy Perry had finally put there feud behind them began to make headlines when the singer sent Swift a literal olive branch prior to her tour early last year, the pair have now made their reconciliation official with a musical collaboration.
No, they haven’t released a duet, although that was something fans had speculated was a possibility when Perry tagged Swift in an Instagram post that pictured a plate of chocolate chip cookies, decorated with red icing that read: “Peace at last.”
Perry did however feature in Swift’s new star-studded music video for her LGBTQ Pride-inspired single, . In the video, which sees Perry make a cameo in the Moschino burger costume she wore to the 2019 Met Gala after parties, the singer hugs it out with Swift, who is dressed as a serving of French fries.
Each of the stars took to Instagram to share stills from the cameo. Perry captioned her post, “This meal is BEEF-free #MeatFreeMonday,” while Swift wrote, “A happy meal”, alongside her own.
The new music video, which is set in a trailer park, also sees the likes of Ellen DeGeneres, Ryan Reynolds, Laverne Cox, Dexter Mayfield, and the cast of make an appearance as Swift sings: “And we see you over there on the internet/ Comparing all the girls who are killing it/ But we figured you out/ We all know now/ We all got crowns/ You need to calm down.”
A number of other cameos were made by Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Justin Mikita, Billy Porter, Adam Lambert, Chester Lockhart, Todrick Hall, Hayley Kiyoko, Adam Rippon, and Hannah Hart. Towards the end of the clip, a call to action was also encouraged, whereby fans were asked to show their pride and sign Swift’s petition “for Senate support of the Equality Act” on Change.org.
Following the release of the music video, Swift touched on her relationship with Perry, along with the feud that began some years ago, and reportedly led to the stars respectively releasing and about each other.
“[Katy] and I have really been on good terms for a while,” Swift said on UK’s radio show. “She sent me a really nice note and an olive branch — like an actual olive branch — to my tour when it started, the , a while ago,” she added. “From that point on, we’ve been on good terms.”
The singer then explained that as she and Perry then bumped into each other on multiple occasions, their fragile friendship slowly started to strengthen. “We saw each other at a party and walked up to each other and hugged it out and talked about things. Then saw each other again and hung out at another party,” Swift shared. “It was just like something felt so much lighter about my life when things became really good between us.”
Their faith in the progress of their friendship led them to want to publicly confirm that their feud was over, but not before they were each 100 per cent sure. “You know, she and I have been fine for a while and really on good terms but we didn’t know if we were ever gonna really tell people about it,” said Swift. “We wanted to make sure that was solid between us before we ever made the public aware.”
is the second single Swift has released from her upcoming 18-track album , which is set to drop on August 23, 2019.
