The threatrics, excitement, sequins and razzle dazzle of Broadway were on prominent display over the weekend as the stars stepped out on Sunday June 9, for the 73rd annual Tony Awards at Radio City Music Hall in New York City.
The Tony Awards recognise outstanding achievement in theatre and are considered the most important US theatre honour that can be awarded. This year’s awards were hosted by James Corden, who has a background in theatre and also loves to sing, as we know from his very popularseries.
Arriving for the awards, the stars were treated to a spectacular rainbow floral wall above the red carpet, in reference to Pride Month. The red carpet was also awash with bright rainbow hues — pink, red, purple, yellow, bright blue and neon green were all present on the red carpet, making for an exceptionally vibrant and show-stopping red carpet, as befits not only Pride Month but also the theatre.
Big name stars from television, film, fashion and theatre were all there including Broadway legend Judith Light, who was honoured with the Isabelle Stevenson Award at the event.
Charlie’s Angels’ Lucy Liu had a moment on the red carpet in purple tulle, model Emily Ratajkowski (above) stepped out in a revealing Michael Kors Collection gown with a dramatically different chic bob, which the internet has decided was a wig.

Jake Gyllenhaal and Tina Fey were both sophisticated in suits — Gyllenhaal in brown and Fey in gold sequins. Pose star Billy Porter wore a head-turning crystal embellished and tulle look from Celestino Couture, which the brand posted to Instagram, noting in the caption that the look was “Designed with a Purpose. Standing for Women’s Rights. Gender Fluidity, Embracing Ethnicity. Sexural Orientation”.
US Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour also attended the awards with her daughter, Bee Carrozzini (née Shaffer); Wintour wore green while Carrozzini shimmered in silver. Iconic fashion designer Valentino Garavani walked the red carpet with ballet dancer Tiler Peck, who wore Valentino, of course.
