Remember April 2003, when a well-known statue of former Iraqi ruler Saddam Hussain was pulled down at Firdaus Square in Baghdad? Similar scenes happened in Belonia, Tripura, where a mob of BJP supporters allegedly razed the statue of former Russian leader and communist ideologue Vadimir Lenin. It is said to be an illegal demolition, which shows that within 48 hours of BJP winning the election in the state the authorities are unable to do anything to stop the buoyant party supporters from doing so.
Lenin, a revolutionary leader, never ruled in India, but his ideology is popular among a section of India and the communist party of India (Marxist) that ruled the state for almost two decades. A video, shared by ANI, that couldn’t be independently verified by Indiatimes.com shows a mob with people wearing saffron shirts and shouting “Bharat mata ki jai,” upend the statue of Lenin with the help of a bulldozer.
