The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence in two separate operations has seized foreign currency worth $490,000 or Rs 3.59 crore from the Indira Gandhi International airport in New Delhi on Monday.
The Hindustan Times reported that an Afghan national was hiding the money inside a microwave oven and ceramic mugs which he was carrying as part of his luggage.
Upon further interrogation it was revealed that he had smuggled foreign exchange currency worth $1.04 million thrice in the past.
