Over the weekend, Princess Beatrice of York and her British property developer fiancé, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, stepped out in Paris for the incredibly chic wedding that brought together French and Austrian royalty.
On the special day, Prince Jean-Christophe Napoleon Bonaparte and Countess Olympia von und zu Arco-Zinneberg, descendants of Napoleon Bonaparte and his second wife, Archduchess Marie-Louise of Austria, tied the knot in the city of love at the Saint-Louis-des-Invalides cathedral.
The 31-year-old countess, who is the great-great-great niece of Archduchess Marie-Louise, walked down the aisle at Les Invalides in the 7th arrondissement of Paris wearing an intricate Oscar de la Renta gown which featured delicate fern motif detailing. The bride accessorised the look with a matching capelet and veil, diamond drop earrings and a stunning tiara.
The wedding reception was held at the 12th century Fontainebleu Palace, where the Archduchess Marie-Louise removed the capelet to show off the Oscar de la Renta gown’s strapless bodice.
While Napoleon Bonaparte and Archduchess Marie-Louise’s proxy wedding in 1810, per Daily Mail, was a union that was designed to end the conflict between France and Austria and make way for an alliance, Prince Jean-Christophe has previously confirmed that his relationship with Archduchess Marie-Louise has little to do with history and is purely based in love.
“It’s a story of love rather than a nod to history,” Prince Jean-Christophe said in an interview, per Daily Mail. “When I met Olympia, I plunged into her eyes and not into her family tree. Afterwards we were able to smile at this historical coincidence,” he confessed.
For the royal wedding, Princess Beatrice and her new fiancé–who are currently planning their own wedding, slated to take place in 2020, after announcing their engagement in September–wore endearing coordinated ensembles.

Princess Beatrice opted for a floral dress by The Vampire’s Wife, which is currently 40 per cent off online at MatchesFashion.com and available to shop for approximately AU$1,500. The royal paired the prairie-like silk satin dress, complete with ruffles and a pleated bow, with a powder-blue coat that matched the hue of Mozzi’s waistcoat, as well as black heels and an oversized pink hat.
