Ireland head coach Andy Farrell has included Ulster wing Jacob Stockdale in a strong 37-man squad for next month’s Autumn Nations Series fixtures against South Africa, Fiji and Australia at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin.
Stockdale last featured for Ireland in a Test at home against Japan in 2021 and he comes into Farrell’s squad while Leinster flyer James Lowe is sidelined with a calf injury.
Ireland ‘A’ panel players also named
An additional panel of players has been named for the Ireland ‘A’ encounter against the All Blacks XV which takes place at the RDS Arena on Friday, November 4.
Ireland will play the Springboks for the first time in six years when the current world return to Aviva Stadium on Saturday, November 5.
Fiji are also back at the Aviva Stadium for the first time since 2017 on Saturday, November 12, while Ireland’s last Test of the series is against the Wallabies on Saturday, November 19. Ireland last faced the Wallabies in 2018 in Australia where they sealed a famous series victory.
Veteran fly-half Johnny Sexton will captain Ireland are six uncapped players in the squad: Ciaran Frawley, Jeremy Loughman, Joe McCarthy, Calvin Nash, Jimmy O’Brien and Cian Prendergast.
Frawley, Loughman, McCarthy, O’Brien and Prendergast played for Ireland against the Maori All Blacks during Ireland’s tour to New Zealand in June and July.
Prendergast, McCarthy, Robert Baloucoune and Calvin Nash also represented the Emerging Ireland squad in the Toyota Challenge matches against the Griquas, Pumas and Cheetahs in Bloemfontein earlier this month.
The Ireland ‘A’ panel includes Tom Ahern, Diarmuid Barron, Jack Crowley, Shane Daly, Max Deegan, Jamie Osborne, Scott Penny and Roman Salanoa from the Emerging Ireland squad as well as experienced front-row forwards Dave Kilcoyne and Marty Moore. Players in the A panel will join the squad after Round Seven of the United Rugby Championship.
Ireland ‘A’ will face a strong All Black XV squad which features experienced Test players such as Damian McKenzie, TJ Perenara and Patrick Tuipulotu.
