According to L’Équipe, the ban on away fans attending the Rennes vs Brest match last weekend was published by the Prefecture of Ille-et-Vilaine on Monday, after the match had already taken place on the Sunday.
Ouest France also reported that around 40 Brest fans had made their way into the stadium, within a section of the home end.
While the Minister of the Interior had banned Brest fans from travelling, it was the prefectural ban that was intended to ban entry into the stadium.
As this part of the ban was not published until after the event, Pierre Barthélemy, a lawyer for the National Supporters Association, has argued that Brest fans present inside Roazhon Park “cannot be subject to punitive sanctions since the prefectoral decree was not in force,” at the time of the fixture.
