Backstage News On Changed Plans for Raw Cruiserweight Title Match
As we noted earlier today, WWE made a last minute decision and changed plans for the Women’s match on Raw, which determined who will face Asuka at WWE TLC.
The original plan was for a Triple Threat match, featuring Emma, Nia Jax and Alicia Fox. Those plans were then changed to the Fatal Five Way match, which was supposed to air on Raw next week. WWE ended up airing the bout last night instead.
According to PWInsider.com, the women’s match plans were not the only last minute changes made to the Raw script last night, as Enzo Amore was set to defend the Cruiserweight Title against Neville. WWE decided to go with Enzo defending against Kalisto, and the former Lucha Dragons member ended up winning his first WWE Cruiserweight Championship.
The PWInsider report adds the Cruiserweight plans changed likely due to the WWE creative team “writing themselves into a corner” with Enzo Amore’s no contact story line clause in his contract. The contract stipulation subsequently left Kalisto as the only possible person who could challenge Enzo for the title.
As noted, Kalisto dedicated his Title win to the late WWE Hall of Famer Eddie Guerrero, who would have celebrated his 50th birthday yesterday, the same day Kalisto won the title.
