Young Bucks Promise to “Retire Jerseys Like Michael Jordan” if They Win Gold at Wrestle Kingdom 12

Matt and Nick Jackson of the Young Bucks were on hand at the annual New Japan Fan Fest this Wednesday, promoting their upcoming match at Wrestle Kingdom 12.

The Bullet Club boys will step into the Tokyo Dome for the fifth consecutive year to battle for the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Championships, this year held by the brand new team of Sho and Yo (formerly the Tempura Boyz in ROH). The two had a lot to say about their opponents, as they look ahead to potentially becoming seven-time champions.

Nick Jackson:

“This isn’t our first rodeo. We’ve been doing this a long time. Close to fifteen years. This is your first rodeo, your first time at Wrestle Kingdom. Matt and I have done five — five in a row. We hold a two-and-two record on the big stage, and we are planning on taking those championship belts for the seventh, SEVENTH time. The most in history as a tag team. Are you guys ready for your first rodeo?”

Matt Jackson:

“Sho and Yo they have their shiny jackets and their light-up shoes on! All the boys in the back are dressed in suits and ties. Everybody’s psyched, right? This is like a holiday or something! I bet you guys have a big entrance planned for tomorrow; you’re gonna try your hardest, right? Lord have mercy Nick, are we the last remaining cowboys in this effing business?”

“We don’t celebrate Wrestle Kingdom like it’s a holiday. Every single time Nick and I step in this ring it’s Wrestle Kingdom. Every single time we come down that ramp with our cool, big-match gear it’s Wrestle Kingdom. On our days off we’re at home putting out content, building an empire larger than any other empire in wrestling, it’s Wrestle Kingdom. Every day is Wrestle Kingdom.”

“And I stand here and I look at you guys with your cool, fancy hair and your shiny jackets. You’re all pumped and excited, but I see one thing — I see a couple of pretenders standing in the ring with two professionals. We operate at an Elite level you guys have never even seen. We feed our children by doing this, and this is your first time on the big stage. I remember you in those New Japan track suits, loading my bags underneath the bus on tour. You guys are a couple of Young Boys still, and I look into your eyes and I already see it. You’ve already lost.”

“At the end of the night we’re going to raise those titles high into the air for the seventh time, we’re going to go down as the greatest junior heavyweight tag team in New Japan Pro Wrestling history, and at the end of that seventh run you better believe we’re going to hang those jerseys high in the rafters and retire those things like we’re Michael Jordan, because what else is there to be done?”
